Starting point

  • C40 Cities is a global network that unites mayors from nearly 100 of the world’s leading cities to deliver the urgent action needed right now to confront the climate crisis.

  • To incentivize high-impact public policies and decisions, the organization constantly produces frontier scientific research, complex financial analyses, regulatory guidelines, and virtual training programs.

  • As a global network, all this data required impeccable graphic and institutional treatment capable of engaging both heads of state and local communities.

Challenge / Opportunity

  • The main challenge lay in the high technical complexity and dense volume of the scientific information generated by the network. The real task was not merely formatting documents, but structuring an engaging, accessible, and mobilizing ecosystem of information design and pedagogical tools for international decision-makers.

  • At Epigrama, we identified the opportunity to become a multidisciplinary strategic ally, articulating the editorial design of high-profile publications with an audiovisual and localization infrastructure capable of breaking language and geographical barriers.

What We Did

We supported the C40 Cities brand team for over four years, transforming complex data into global pedagogical and editorial resources:

  • Art Direction & Global Report Layout: We executed the art direction, editorial design, and creation of data-driven infographics, icons, and technical charts for high-profile global publications. Notable among these are the Good Green Jobs, Green Neighbourhoods, Right To Move reports and the Women4Climate playbooks.

  • Audiovisual Production & E-learning Design (ICAP Course): We co-designed the narrative and structure of the Integrated Climate Action Planning (ICAP)interactive virtual course alongside the C40 team. We led the audiovisual production, filmmaking, and art direction for this ambitious 20-module academic program, which integrates interviews with international experts and case studies from cities across the Global South.

  • Advanced Post-Production & Six-Language Localization: We executed meticulous editing, color grading, sound design, and motion graphics processes rigorously adapted to C40’s institutional identity. Furthermore, we guaranteed the comprehensive technical localization of all digital assets into six simultaneous languages (English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, and Indonesian), ensuring the content was inclusive and accessible to urban leaders worldwide.

1. Information Design and Editorial Haute Couture

The first step to mobilizing climate action is making science readable. We took C40’s dense financial and regulatory analyses and subjected them to rigorous visual curation. We designed a system of high-precision infographics and statistical charts that allow mayors and urban planners to grasp the benefits of green jobs or sustainable mobility at a single glance. This elevated the aesthetic standard of the network's iconic publications, balancing scientific rigor with cutting-edge design.

2. Virtual Pedagogy for the Global South

Creating the ICAP interactive course required a dynamic instructional design and audiovisual production approach. We turned 20 theoretical modules into a seamless transmedia experience. By centering the art direction on Global South case studies, we brought visibility to climate solutions being forged in territories with complex logistical and social realities, making the academic program deeply empathetic, inspiring, and technically robust.

3. Localization Infrastructure and Knowledge Sovereignty

Climate change demands a global response, meaning knowledge cannot speak a single language. The greatest logistical and technical milestone of this alliance was the localized and adapted translation of the entire course ecosystem into six simultaneous languages. Epigrama structured advanced workflows in motion graphics and multimedia editing to ensure that technicalities, charts, and subtitles maintained the same structural and institutional precision in Mandarin, Indonesian, Spanish, or English, democratizing access to advanced climate training.

Results Achieved

  • Long-Term Strategic Alliance: The sustained trust over four years with the C40 Cities brand team consolidates Epigrama Studios as a key design and production node for international climate diplomacy.

  • Democratization of Scientific Data: We converted tons of data and management reports into visually stunning pieces and official pedagogical tools that today guide regulatory and environmental decision-making in over 100 metropolises across the planet.

  • Inclusion and Multi-Language Reach: The deployment of the ICAP interactive course in six languages guaranteed frictionless adoption and an accessible environment for thousands of urban leaders, unifying C40’s global voice under an unalterable, coherent, and high-level visual identity standard.
